Why hobbies matter as an artist.
Having hobbies outside your usual bubble is like a mental health cheat code—keeps your brain fresh and your vibe in check!
So, I recently packed my bags and headed off on a weekend adventure with my friends to soak up the wild vibes of Czechia! We hit up a famous bouldering spot in Sneznik, where we spent our days climbing real rock and just vibing with nature. It was the perfect little escape to unplug, unwind, and forget about the daily chaos of freelance artist life.
I’ve been itching to get back into filmmaking, so I grabbed my camera and documented the whole trip in a fun little video. It’s now up on my YouTube channel—go check it out and join the adventure!
I never really expect to crush hard routes like I would in an indoor gym, but I was honestly shocked to see myself pushing past my limits—and even checking off one of my climbing goals for the year: hitting that sweet 7A grade!
In that moment, it really hit me how crucial it is to have hobbies and goals outside of my artist life. In the past, all my personal goals revolved around creating art. Sure, it’s great for leveling up your skills and maybe landing new gigs, but it also keeps you locked in that hustle mindset 24/7. Even when you’re making art for fun, your brain is still on the clock.
I like to think of my brain as a muscle that needs a break now and then. You wouldn’t hit the gym every single day and work out the same muscle over and over, right? Your brain needs fresh vibes and new experiences to stay balanced. Plus, it’s a great way to refill that creative juice and fend off those annoying art blocks.
So, moral of the story: get outside, touch some grass, hang with friends, and when you’re recharged, grab that pencil and make something epic!
Art of the day - La Dolci Wursta
I recently kicked off a fun little series featuring quirky, distorted characters and themes. After rediscovering the “content-aware scale” tool in Photoshop, I couldn’t resist creating some wild, warped references to play around with—and voilà, this is what came out of it!
Hope you enjoyed this short (and slightly chaotic) newsletter!
